Chapter I - The Grief of Arjuna The blind king Dhritarashtra (the blind the mind) told or asked Sanjaya (impartial introspection):
1. "What did my children, evil, seductive and mental tendencies of the senses, as opposed to the pure discriminative mental tendencies, who have gathered together on the sacred plain of the battlefield of Life (Dharmakshetra) who want to battle psychological and moral."
Sanjaya said
2. Then King Duryodhana, having seen the armies of the Pandavas arrayed in battle, he fled from his preceptor Drona, and spoke to him thus:
3. "O Master, looks at the great army of the sons of Pandu, deployed in battle by the son of Drupada, your disciple of great talent.
4. "In it there are powerful heroes, skillful in battle as a great archer Arjuna and Bhima, the veteran warriors Yuyiidhana, Virata and Drupada;
5." Potent Dhristaketu, Cekitana and the king of Kashi, the flower of men, Purujit, and Kuntibhoja and Shaibya;
6. "The strong and brave Yudhamanyu Uttamauja the son of Subhadra and the sons of Draupadi - all the lords of great chariots.
7." Play well, or Flower of the two-times-born Brahmins, who are the generals of our army stand between us, you will name them for you know.

26. Partha (Arjuna) saw the armies gathered in both grandfathers, fathers-in-law, uncles, brothers and cousins, children and grandchildren, classmates, teachers and other friends again.
27. Seeing all those relatives lined up in rows, the Son of Kunti was seized with deep compassion and spoke thus sadly
Arjuna said
28. "Seeing, or Krishna, these my kinsmen assembled here eager to fight, my limbs fail and my mouth is dry.

30. "Nor can I stand. My mind wanders here and there, or Keshava, and I see bad omens.

37." Therefore we are not qualified to kill our relatives, children of Dhritarashtra. O Madhava, how can we achieve happiness by killing our relatives?
38 - 39. "Although they say, with the intelligence clouded by greed, can not see disaster in the ruin of families and not see the evil in hostility against friends, because - or Janardana - us, we perceive clearly the evil caused by the destruction of families, we should not try to avoid this sin? 40. "With the destruction of the family, family members perish in the ancient religious rites. When it's destroyed the religion that sustains us, then, sin overtakes the entire family.
41." O Krishna, because of lack of religion (adharma) the women of the family become poor. And when - or Varshneya - women are corrupt, adultery is spreading among the castes.
42. "The adulteration of the blood of the family to hell with the destroyers of the clan, along with the family. And succumb to the spirits of their ancestors, private offers of water and rice cakes.
43. "With the misdeeds of the destroyers of the family, which produce the confusion of castes, they are destroyed the ancient religious rites (dharma) of caste and race.

45. "Driven by the greed of the pleasure of owning a kingdom, we are ready to kill our relatives - an action that will involve us in a great inequity.
46." If the sons of Dhritarashtra, with weapons in hand, I killed in battle while I remain unarmed and without resistance, so I would be more acceptable and beneficial. "
Sanjaya said
47. Having thus spoken on the battlefield, with the mind distressed by pain, throwing the bow and arrow, Arjuna sat down on the seat of his car. "
