THURSDAY 'SANTO - The pilgrimage of "Forgive"

It should be remarked that probably arose long before the rites of the two processions, as a form of pilgrimage to improperly so-called "Tomb", why are the altars of Repose, which places the Blessed Sacrament for the 'Eucharistic adoration. Going out in pairs, called "posts", the brothers, of the many partnerships already arisen in the sixteenth century went in the churches of the Old City, to pause in prayer before all 'altar and then give way to the next pair.
This penitential devotion was held on the afternoon of Holy Thursday, but especially in the morning of Friday, until such time as this gave rise to the function in the churches of three hours of agony of the Lord.
Brotherhood's participation in any arrogance or claiming the 'seniority or foundation for the greatest number of members or by virtue of privileges issued by' ecclesiastical authority.
.
For this reason, often there is regrettable incidents that evoked the "scandal" in the eyes of the devotees, like what happened in 1881 between a mail of the Confraternity of the Rosary and a Carmine than he had given to the right of way granted Caramel by the king Ferdinand IV of Bourbon with a decree that since 1777 had recognized the legal personality of Carmine, and the right of way on a visit to the Tomb.
Despite the disputes, and the minutes recorded in the chronicles of the time, the pilgrimage to the Tomb continued until the beginning of last century, during which the provisions of 'ecclesiastical authority stopped tradition, leaving only the Confraternity of Mount Caramel
the privilege of the pilgrimage.
Today, in fact, on the evening of Holy Thursday we see in the streets and alleys of Old Town and in the central streets of the village only "perdune" as they are called the items of the Carmine. A
these ancient rites, which was right and proper to remember, then joined the two processions, which are today the most precious heritage of our traditions and the 'stronger expression of devotion and piety of Taranto.
